噴油泵的供油齒桿須保持靈活，以保證調速反應的靈敏性。用靈敏的彈簧秤對齒桿進行拉動阻力測試，對應缸噴油泵的拉動阻力應分別不大于規定值。由于生銹、柱塞偶件緊固后變形、柱塞彈簧折斷后齒圈與齒桿嚙合處碾傷、齒桿端部軸套嚴重磨損、撥叉式油量調節機構的撥叉緊固角度不正確，噴油泵調速器的推力斜盤和飛球座的安裝或配合不良等原因，都會影響供油齒桿的靈活性。當這種影響靈活性的阻力還未達到使供油齒桿不能移動的程度時，就會出現時快時慢現象（若供油齒桿不能移動，出現故障現象將視齒桿停留位置不同而有所區別；例如，柴油發電機不能啟動、不能熄火、轉速不受控制、飛車等）

When the resistance that affects flexibility has not yet reached the level that prevents the fuel supply rod from moving, a phenomenon of sometimes fast and sometimes slow will occur (if the fuel supply rod cannot move, the fault phenomenon will vary depending on the position of the rod; for example, diesel generators cannot start, cannot stop, the speed is not controlled, and the speed is flying, etc.)
